The video we're going to cover this time is Samsung's product introduction video, which is constantly competing with APPLE.
In fact, both companies have so many product-related videos that there is no end to reviewing each and every one of them,
Anyway, our goal is to find the video that gave us a special "impression" and why,
I will introduce videos that corresponded to it.
This is the "introduction video" of Galaxy Note 8, which was released in the same year as iPhone X, which was covered in the EP1 review,
It is not a typical 30-second, 1-minute advertisement video, but a video that explains the functions of products that are posted on social channels such as YouTube for the main purpose of digital marketing.
There are two main reasons why I liked this video as below, and I think there must have been a lot of difficulties in doing those two well than I thought. Let's watch one by one
[Visual with sincerity]
If you just listen to it, it's a very clichéd word, but I think the product "Note8" matches the direction it has to go.
The video had about 8 S-pen functions, 4 camera functions, and 4 to 5 other features. In fact, there are more than 10 functions just for the number of functions, so there are things like this. The previous product introduction videos ended after just explaining that there was something like this?
So it can't help but look pretty boring, and unless it's a special outstanding function, I would have just pressed the back button, but this video was a little different.
First of all, the reason is important, but the narrative still felt informative and explaining something, but it seems like it tried to offset the boredom of listening to it with visuals as much as possible.
In fact, I think there was a certain effect of people from different occupations appearing and continuing to focus their attention, and one of the important things is that when you show each function, you show the images in a certain formula order
If you look closely, you can see all the features in a wide shot – a magnified shot of a product
Or for functions that you think are a little more important, you can repeat them with wide shots – product magnification shots – wide shots – product magnification shots.
I don't think this is a big deal, but if this formula is repeated, the viewer will have no confusion about unconsciously accepting that there is a new function like this. It shows all the functions in the same pattern.
The reason for putting the wide shot in first is clear. Consumers need to be aware of what the situation is at a glance, which is why they started by setting the right angle and distance and always showing it first. This was rather good.
After the wide shots above are finished, the product cut comes out right away. Depending on the characteristics of the function, there was a difference between general tight shots or macro shots, but anyway, it seems that they were very careful to see the function clearly. That's why I understood it very well. (Even the synch with the narrative was perfect.)
Another good thing about the tight shots of the product is that I could see the cursive writing used by real models. It showed me taking notes with an S-pen without any decoration.
I don't think it's much, but I feel like I'm really pursuing reality, even if I'm not sure what it means to write it down.
Reality and authenticity are also felt when you show the camera function on the back, and it's actually fun to find a place like this and get the model on board.
Why did he show that it works well in this situation? Dual optical image stabilization (OIS) is a function that can hold the camera's hands shaking to some extent. To show this function, we chose several situations where it was really difficult for users to balance or to show them.
It's something that seems to have really thought deeply about how to show the feature.
It's really hard to take a tight shot as shown below,
Because in this scene, the background, the hand holding the product in front of it, and the camera filming it from behind must have all been shaken, but it's another great part that they filmed it real. Usually, you can use Rig or something to fix the product so that you can see the product well. But it's amazing that they filmed everything real even when the whole thing was shaking.
It wouldn't have been easy..
Also, I'll add a transition cut to talk about SPEN-related features, and I'll talk about Camera-related features. It can't be confused at all. I think it made it really easy for first-timers to follow along.
It's not just a pen. It's a pen. It's a bit witty to use a pen-shaped animation
Overall, there was little CG and it was all real, so I think the authenticity was more doubled.
I can also see that I tried to show various people with different jobs in each function.
Consumers can see this too. So I think the tagline "Dobigger things" at the end of the day was more relatable.
[Background music]
I can't help but talk about the background music. Honestly, it's not that the visuals are very shocking, but it's a video that shows the situation of many people in a Viette style. I think it was this background music that played a role in heightening emotions while watching this.
You must have had a lot of worries about the background music. I think people must have had a lot of worries about choosing the right music genre to give the impression that they are achieving their achievements in their respective positions with Note8 products.
Finding music that feels appropriate is also a work that takes a considerable amount of time from the creative team and the director's point of view, and I think that experts in this field must have thought about it together and listened to a lot of music, so this video looks great once again.
Let's take a closer look. If we decided on the music, of course, we would have worked really hard on mixing the music. I don't think I used the original song as it is. (There are some parts that I feel like I modified it slightly.)
Anyway, there are five main parts of music
- First introduction (00:00 to 00:23)
- The first part (00:23 to 01:38): The basic beat + violin solo is the part where you raise your emotions little by little
- 2nd part (01:38 to 02:03): A bit faster by adding an additional bit to the basic bit
- 2nd part + @ (02:03~) : added a background chorus feel to the faster main beat to the climax.
- The last part (03:02~last): the part that ends the music by repeating the feeling of the background chorus in a shorter term instead of the climax section repeated to finish the last video.
I think the "first introduction" brought a completely different part of the music. Anyway, the good thing is that the music started calmly so that you can focus on the visuals of the new product. And the transition to other music from 00:23 was very natural and good.
The transition is the part where the bell rings at this (00:23), and this part gives the impression of starting a lifestyle scene with a loud bell sound after the previous music, but removes the reluctance to change the music.
For the first part, I think the violin melody was properly matched with the lifestyle scenes along with the basic beat. Violin has the power to stimulate human emotions that makes it hard to fail at any time, and I think it was properly used here as well. (Of course, this sound was not added separately, it was originally this kind of music lol)
From the second part, a separate beat was added to the basic beat, which became a bit richer and more roomy for tension. From 02:03, people's chorus voice was added to it, so I felt more excited. Actually, this is the climax from here, and this climax feeling is repeated a few times in a certain section, and then the visual ends, so I had to end it, so I ended the music with the visual in the last part, using the chorus voice often in a shorter period.
As I keep listening to the music, there are times when I feel like this last part ended a little suddenly, and this is the part where I definitely feel like I did some twitching to finish the video by editing the original song.
Nevertheless, it was modified as naturally as possible, and I think the last part of the music was well-matched with the visuals that showed everyone's visuals in order, so the overall completeness was high.
Anyway, listening to this background music alone is quite good, so many people asked in the comments what the title of the music was, but overall, a lot of the music has been modified, so I don't think it would have been found with an app or something.
Anyway, the music was modified and mixed well, but I think the revised music was thoroughly synchronized with the visual and its structure and feel, resulting in a situation where synergy was higher.
I think the two above are the reasons for the 'touching' I received,
Other than that,
The natural acting of the models,
Moderate narrative tone,
I couldn't take my eyes off the diversity of people
I can say that the video helped to impress, but I think the key was the top two..
In fact, if you are good at these two things, you can impress people enough and put your soul into the product. Anyway, the purpose and intention of this video came out well. It has this function, so please consider it and buy it. It's a promotional video that feels like this, right? In that sense, I think this video was perfectly planned and visualized for the first planning intention of this product, the target of this product, and the slogan.
There are many different reasons why people are moved by the video, but if you do one or two really well, you can be moved if you do a lot of things well, or you can be moved because of the details or specific parts. I think it's a real keba-ke.
I want to study what the logic is and share it with my own eyes as much as possible.
I'll be back with EP3!
